The 2019 CAI-CLAC Annual Planning Meeting (APM) brought together 56 CAI-CLAC Delegates, Liaisons, At-Large Delegates, Emeritus Members, as well as Chapter CED and LSC members from throughout California to discuss key issues facing community associations and our legislative priorities for 2020 and beyond.
Several of these delegates shine in the work they have done for CAI-CLAC over many years of service. This year, we recognized John MacDowell, Esq. with the distinction of Emeritus Delegate for his dedication to serving community associations through CAI-CLAC. Allison Andersen, Chair of the infrastructure Task Force, was also recognized for her part in the success of SB 326.
Below are a few highlights from our APM discussions. We will share more specific details as we finalize plans.
- CAI-CLAC will evaluating the negative impacts of SB 323 and will be looking for help to gather data over the next 12 months, with an eye toward cleanup legislation in the future.
- CAI-CLAC is planning on sponsoring legislation this year. Stay tuned.
- Hot topics at the APM included SB 323, electronic communications, and assessment liens, among others.
The APM and our Benefit Fundraiser were successful because of everyone who attended. It is truly a privilege to serve with so many amazing people. A special thank you to our 2019 Benefit Fundraiser Sponsors! Your generous contributions helped us provide a wonderful event for attendees. You can view all our event photos here.
Finally, it was a great privilege to sit down with Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris at the Community Associations Institute (CAI) Legal Forum: California Communities. We discussed her first year as an elected official, the affordable housing crisis and how HOAs can be part of the solution.
We encourage all our CAI members to continue the momentum from the APM and Legal Forum by using the remainder of the year to schedule in-district meetings with your legislators and to get involved in their fall community events.
