Angry People: Give Them Grace and Space
By Terri Guest, CIRMS, CMCA, CAI-CLAC PR and Tech Committee This article first appeared on the www.berginsurance.com blog here. I had the pleasure of attending the Legal Forum put on by CAI for California communities a couple of weeks ago. It is always interesting...
2021 Mid-Year California Legislative Session Update
It’s officially Summer Recess at the California State Capitol. The Legislature was busy wrapping up policy committees before leaving on July 16, 2021. The Legislature reconvenes on August 16th and our work on CAI-CLAC’s 2021 Legislative Session Hot Bills will continue.
Legislative Update on SB 9 and SB 10: What You Need to Know
The California State Legislature introduced two bills this year aimed at fixing California’s housing crisis by rezoning single-family lots to allow for duplexes and more. While affordable housing remains a top priority in California, it’s important to understand the unintended consequences these bills will have on homeowners.

2021 HOA TRENDS
From virtual Board meetings to amenity closures, 2020 was a year of change and unpredictability. Community associations, managers, boards, vendors, and all individuals alike have been forced to adapt to everchanging circumstances and guidelines as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. With that, it comes as no surprise that we should expect more change and new challenges as we move into 2021.
2021 Legislation: Insight and Legal Update
For the last two legislative sessions in a row, we have faced some of the most historically significant bills since the Davis-Stirling Act came into effect in 1986. And that’s saying a lot considering the Davis-Stirling Act has probably been amended more than a hundred times since it was enacted. This year was especially challenging on legislators, advocates, and citizens wishing to engage in the process, given the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the legislative process. It has also demonstrated the need for modernizing the Davis-Stirling Act by allowing for the use of mainstream technology which has become commonplace in our everyday lives.

2020 Virtual Annual Planning Meeting Recap
CAI-CLAC wasn’t planning on going virtual this year. Let’s face it – none of us were! But when COVID-19 caused all in-person conferences and meetings to cancel their 2020 events, we, like everyone else, shifted to the virtual alternative. Many different platforms were discussed and it was decided that the 2020 CAI-CLAC Annual Planning Meeting (APM) would be held via Zoom.
